Floor plan

Height

A line marks the edge of the floor — a wall or a drop. Doors, locks and one-way drops are not marked, and a gap is as likely to be a ledge as a doorway. 18 of these 18 positions land on the drawn floor, which is worth stating because the coordinates and the geometry come from different sources and both have to be right for that to happen. 01Why you come here

Nothing here can be hidden from. Everything sees invisibility and greater kobolds see hide as well. Corpse retrieval is a fighting problem, not a stealth problem — plan every trip as a two-way fight.
Focus effects you will keep for a long time. Djarns Amethyst Ring carries Spell Haste II, the Golden Efreeti Boots carry Enhancement Haste II.
The lava is a damage source, not scenery. Falling in hurts badly. There is usually a way out nearby, but not always.
25 to 55. The top of this zone is raid territory and the bottom is not.

02Know where you are

Everything in this zone sees through invisibility. Greater kobolds see through hide as well. You cannot sneak past anything and you cannot stealth a corpse run.

The best value in the zone comes off a level 25 mob. The guano harvester carries the Cloak of Shadows — AC 12, DEX +13, SV Disease +10, all classes and races. His placeholder is a sonic bat, he casts invisibility on himself the moment he spawns, and he roams the bat caves. Finding him is the whole difficulty.

All six are WAR CLR PAL SHD BRD, lore and no drop. Zordakalicus is a triggered spawn and part of the Cleric epic — the aggressive dragon form of the vendor Zordak Ragefire standing in Nagafen's lair. Between them the set carries SV Fire +74, which matters more here than anywhere else in Norrath.

05Dangers

Nothing can be hidden from. Everything sees invisibility; greater kobolds see hide too. Corpse retrieval is a fighting problem, not a stealth problem. Plan every trip as a two-way fight.

The lava is a damage source, not scenery. Falling in hurts badly. There is usually a way out nearby — you have to survive until you reach it. The wiki notes longtime hunters keep entire suits of fire-resist jewellery for this zone. There is also a pit trap into lava and a block crusher trap, both marked on the map.

Sonic bats stun for a long time. Their melee procs Sonic Scream, a long-duration single-target stun — the wiki says it takes you out of commission for a while and makes them nearly unsoloable. The bugs are worse: poison and disease DoTs, travelling in packs, aggroing easily. The noxious spider's DoT alone does 1200 damage.

Fire giants break the normal rules. They cannot be mesmerised at all, and cannot be charmed except by very high level enchanters. They resist every spell cast from outside melee range. They aggro each other through walls. The wiki calls a feign-pull essential and says the area should not be attempted without one.

The Efreeti area has no exit. Imp Protectors ring Djarn, the pathing is difficult, and the wiki states plainly there is basically no way to flee other than evacuating.

The tunnels are winding and confusing. Getting lost, getting trapped, and failing to get out quickly are all named as dangers in their own right. The Sol A zone lines are the escape — but the path to them is twisty.

The counterweight. Several areas near the Sol A zone lines are relatively safe: you can pull, and zone out if overwhelmed. The wiki's assessment is that a savvy group earns mountains of experience there in a short time.

06Getting there

Main entrance from Lavastorm Mountains. Travel to the large lava pit at the north end — confusingly also called Solusek's Eye. Two cave paths sit on its southern edge; take the western one.
Multiple zone lines connect to Solusek's Eye (Sol A), marked as lettered points on the wiki map. They are the standard escape route.
They are used as escapes from the other side too — the wiki's warning is that you may go from the frying pan into the fire when you arrive.
Succor and evacuate drop you at −424, −263, the zone line to Lavastorm.
